Client Orientated Training:

UK Road Safety is unique in Driving Instructor Training in that we endeavour to provide structured one-to-one training programme to suite the individual.

Our approach is to have separate modules for each part of the 3-part qualifying process. This allows clients to only pay for the module that they are undertaking at the time rather than pay for the whole programme in advance. In this way it allows you to spread the cost of training to suit your individual needs.

Each client/trainee is allocated an Individual Course Tutor who will see your training through to the end.

Initial Assessment

Before you commence training or part with any fees, our Driving Instructor Training Manger who will provide an honest assessment of your attitude & ability to become a Driving Instructor.

This will take approximately an hour during which we will look at both your driving and communication skills.

This will enable us to provide you with a potential training programme tailored specifically to your individual needs. For your own peace of mind this assessment will be carried out in your own vehicle.

The ADI Theory Test (Part 1)

This is an I.T. based theory test using touch-screen technology.

You will be given 90 minutes to complete the test consisting of 100 multiple-choice questions. There is also a I.T. based hazard perception element which tests your ability to recognize developing hazardous situations.

In order to keep costs down we advise you study for the Part 1 theory test at home using our recommended reading materials which we provide. However, to maximise your learning we recommend that you undertake Part 2 training parallel to your Part 1 studies.

Theory Option 1 Home based study/distance learning
Theory Option 2 Combining home based study with with the Part 2 training.

Assessing your readiness for the ADI Theory Test is achieved by studying the complete question bank published by the Driving Standards Agency (DSA) &  available as part of the reading of reading material provided by UK Road Safety.

Testing of Driving Ability (Part 2)

This is the first practical test that will test both your eyes (your eyes will be checked before any training is commenced) & driving technique. This test is of an advanced standard and lasts about an hour.

You will be expected to drive positively in a brisk & business like manner. You must also drive safely & show sound judgement of distance, speed & timing.

All our training is based on the DSA book "Driving - The Essential Skills" which is recognised within the industry as the key to safe driving.

Training can be carried out on an hourly, half-day or daily basis to fit in with your current commitments. All training is carried out on a 1-2-1 basis to maximise learning

During all training we be linking aspects of the driving skill to the instructional process. By integrating our training in this way it will help to prepare you for the final stage of Part 3.

Our comprehensive Driving Instructor Training programme aims to ensure that you have comprehensive and broad knowledge and confidence to succeed. All our training is pitched at a level beyond that at which you will be tested, this again ensures your success.

Testing of Ability to Instruct (Part 3)

This test lasts about an hour & is split into two equal parts. The purpose is to assess your knowledge & ability to teach learner drivers.

You will be expected to give practical instruction to an examiner who will first portray either the role of a complete beginner or a partly trained pupil with limited knowledge, & then as a pupil who is about test standard.

The minimum practical training is 40 hours with an option to take up the ADI Trainee Licence if you wish at the end. It will involve a degree of home study on your part to prepare lesson plans to be used during training. Don't worry we will assist you & provide the necessary teaching aids along with full email & telephone support.

You will be taught to instruct in each of the twelve topic areas that make up the test curriculum. We will harness the knowledge & experience you gained during training for Parts 1 & 2.

Again the training is carried out on a 1-2-1 basis & can be tailored to fit in with your current commitments.

To assess you progress we will conduct a series of mock tests to identify individual training needs (As before these are undertaken by former DSA Examiners). Our aim is to ensure that you are fully prepared for the test by having the ability & confidence to pass the test.

Should any extra training be necessary, this can be arranged & agreed for an additional fee.

Our association with local driving schools should enable you to gain an immediate placement as a trainee or fully qualified driving Instructor.
